Cumbria Grand is very good at what it does, high turnover with good hot food and entertainment. It would not take much to give it a good appearance and on the whole it is not too bad, but eg chairs in the lounges are shabby and the standard of cleaning is a bit variable, some surfaces not seen a duster for months. But I'm not complaining, I got good value for money and knew what to expect when I booked. Worst possibly was the first floor stairway which had been stripped for decorating but nothin......

This was our 3rd visit to the Cumbria Grand. The first two were excellent although a few years ago. This visit was very poor. The hotel is run down and shabby. The socket in our room nearly came off the wall when unplugging an appliance. No wi-fi. Broken hair dryer. Badly stained bath mats. False fire alarm 3 times at 6 am . All of these were unacceptable but the worst aspect was the food. We had taken our son and his fiancee on our recommendation of excellent food. It was frankly sho......
