Just returned from a 3 day break @ the Brook Redwood with my wife. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay & enabled us to visit many plaes in the Bristol/Avon area. We found the Hotel staff to be very friendly, hard working & efficient. The buffet brekfast is probably the best I've had in any hotel & the evening meals which were included in the deal were of a much higher class than we'd expected. There was a choice of probably 6 starters, 6 mains & 5 deserts with an extra 2 4/5 dishes available with a supliment. The resteraunt itself was clean & full of caracter as it was part of the oldest part of the hotel & had a high vaulted ceiling. We also made use of the free swimming pool, sauna & steam room. The hotel also shows films in the evening in the cinema which we expected to be a thrown together conference room with a naff projecter & a shaky screen. Far from it! The cinema was fantastic & could put my local cinema to shame. The staff even allowed us to take a bottle of wine & a couple of glasses while we whatched Russel Crow do his Robin Hood thing. A very civilised way to spend an evening.
Although the hotel isn't a million miles from Bristol, if you want to go there for a drink in the evening & leave your car you should expect to pay between £12-£15 in a taxi (or so I was told) & the hotel isn't on a bus route. If I were to think of one thing that could be done to improve the hotel, it would be a portering facility. It didn't effect me too much but some of the rooms are quite a walk from reception & on our last night I offered my services to help an elderly couple transport quite a large amount of luggage to the furthermost point of the hotel. If there were any portering trolleys for customers to use themselves, I didn't see them.
All in all, excellent & succeeded our expectations in every aspect.
