Kendal

This beautiful market town is also known as Kirkby Kendal and is located within the scenic Lake District within Cumbria. The town lies within a short distance of Windermere, the largest natural lake in England and a wonderful location for a lakeside walk. In addition to tourism, the town is perhaps most famous for the Kendal mint cake, a peppermint and chocolate snack favoured by hikers, cyclers and climbers for its high energy content, it is apt then that this town provides ample opportunities to get active and explore outside in the beautiful countryside. Visitors are spoilt for choice of attractions to visit within the town, with two castles, two museums, shopping arcades and a number of impressive historical buildings to visit. Kendal is also an ideal base for those wishing to explore the rest of the Lake District and national parks, or further afield into the Scottish borders.

We love Kendal because...

  • Famous Kendal mint cake
  • Ideal for outdoor lovers
  • Remarkable scenery

Sizergh Castle and Garden

This impressive building has been home to the Strickland family for over 750 years and has seen marvellous renovations and extensions over the years, creating the dramatic exterior we see today. The interior displays an impressive collection of family portraits, carved over mantels and furniture. The castle’s gardens are also magnificent, featuring a limestone rock garden, water gardens and a number of flowering species of plants.
