In and around Penrith
These spectacular waterfalls cascade down from an astonishing 70 metres. Travellers can view the waterfall from a variety of spots including the two fascinating footbridges. The area and the waterfalls have been immortalised by the ‘bard of the lakes’ William Wordsworth in many of his poems. There are a number of footpaths in this area to be explored and we recommend bringing a picnic and turning it into a full day trip.
Lowther Castle and Gardens
This spectacular building looks out across the stunning landscape of the Lake District and provides visitors with over 130 acres of well-maintained ground for exploration, including secret gardens, viewing spots and woodlands. The castle underwent one of the largest renovations ever to have taken place in Europe in 2011 and is now open to the public for viewing.
Lakeland Bird of Prey Centre
This wonderful centre houses over 150 owls, falcons, hawks, eagles and other birds of prey from the British Isles and abroad. There are daily exercise exhibitions that are marvellous to behold as they twirl in aerial acrobatic and in this natural environment. The castle was erected in the early 19th century and belongs to the Earls of Lonsdale.
