Sandown

Sandown

This idyllic town lies on the scenic south east coast of the Isle of Wight, sheltered within a dramatic bay and providing miles of golden sandy beaches. The traditional English seaside feel of the town is best felt at the Victorian pier, which features a host of attractions, including a zoo and a fascinating old fort. Visitors often enjoy drinking a tea or coffee on one of the beach café’s before grabbing an ice cream to go and taking a leisurely stroll down the coastline. The town itself expands parallel to the esplanade, before the two join at the pristine Yaverland Beach. This popular beach is famous for water sports, where visitors can take part in some windsurfing, kayaking, body boarding and many more activities.

We love Sandown because...

  • Golden, sandy beaches
  • Ideal for water sports
  • Find a dinosaur fossil

Isle of Wight Zoo

A family-run zoo, which houses a number of wonderful rare and exotic animals, with an abundance of tigers and lemurs. The zoo lies within the ruined Victorian Fort on the beautiful Sandown seafront. The zoo has become a registered charity and its main aim is to improve the well-being of animals here and all over the world. Many of the animals here, especially the big cats, are rescues – saved from illegal trade and other cruel conditions

Yaverland Beach

One of the most iconic beaches on the Isle of Wight, this golden-sand beach stretches for miles and provides visitors with the ideal place to relax, sunbath, go swimming or take a leisurely walk. The area is also popular for archaeologists as there have been a huge number of dinosaur fossils uncovered here, visitors can even go on a dinosaur fossil tour and search for their own historical souvenir.
