North East Scotland

One of the most geographically diverse and intensely beautiful areas of Scotland, the North East is comprised of the county of Angus, the bustling cities of Dundee and Aberdeen as well as the tranquil towns of Inverurie, Ballater, Elgin and many more. From undulating grass valleys, to woodlands, mountains and dramatic seascapes – North East Scotland is one of the most picturesque locations in the country and an ideal place for outdoor exploration.

Visit sites of great historical interest, from the ruins of early Pictish hillforts, to grand medieval castles. Aberdeenshire has often been referred to as ‘Scotland’s Castle Country’, with more castles per acre here than anywhere else in the UK. There are also a number of spectacular museums that pay tribute to this diverse part of the country, its people and the history of the area, with many housing a number of fascinating relics, artefacts and historical records.

The national drink of Scotland, whisky, is well celebrated in the North East. Featuring everything from world famous distilleries such as Glenfiddich, to smaller operations like Fettercairn Distillery as well as some of the oldest distilleries in the country such as The GlenDronnach Distillery.

We love North East Scotland because...

  • Geographically diverse
  • ‘Scotland’s Castle Country’
  • Ideal for whisky lovers
