Biggar

Biggar

This picturesque market town is brimming with Scottish hospitality, natural splendour and nearby attractions. Located at the meeting point between the Scottish Borders and South Lanarkshire, the charming market town of Biggar prides itself on its rich cultural history, strong identity and rural location, enabling easy travel into the countryside.

Take a walk up the high street and you’ll find a quaint collection of little shops and cafes, as well as a couple of welcoming pubs and some award-winning fish and chips. For a town its size, it also offers a good range of museums, providing visitors with the chance to learn more about the area and its history – from the Gladstone Court Museum to the Greenhill Covenanters Museum. The fantastic scenery of the area is just waiting to be explored, whether on foot, on bike or on horseback. The nearby Tinto hill is the highest peak in the area, providing a good challenge and a wonderful view for experienced hill walkers – and also serves as a popular launching point for hang gliding and paragliding.

We love Biggar because...

  • Picturesque market town
  • Rich cultural history
  • Ideal base to explore outdoors
