Gatehouse of Fleet

This picturesque village is set in an awe-inspiring location near the banks of the Water of Fleet on the Solway coast. The village was once an industrial centre, relying on cotton mills, shipbuilding and brewing to support the population, but today the area is known for its relaxing location and the variety of nearby outdoor activities that visitors can take part in, including golf, walking, cycling, fishing and water sports in the Water of Fleet.

Gatehouse of Fleet is steeped in enthralling local history, dating back many centuries with Cardoness castle standing since the 1470’s. Those with a keen interest in history will be fascinated to learn more about the areas local heritage and may visit some of the local attractions, which mainly focus on the industrial nature of the village.
