Inveraray

A traditional town of exceptional natural beauty, resting within the very heart of Scotland herself. Often referred to as the ‘gateway to the Highlands and Islands’, this is a great launching pad for those exploring the country far and wide as it is within driving distances of many cities, towns and isles. Enjoy the wide-open national parks, craggy mountains, undulating green fields and wonderful isles that this corner of Scotland has to offer. Guests will have many opportunities to visit and tour traditional distilleries and sample Scotland’s national drink, whisky, as well as partaking in a spot of golf in its ancestral home on the many world class championship courses scattered through Argyll.

There are numerous areas of historical interest to explore including dramatic castles, breath-taking monuments and sites of ancient battles. Climb Inveraray Bell Tower’s 176 steps to be rewarded with a stunning vista of Loch Fyne and Inveraray for miles around. Seafood fans will be delighted with the range of fresh, local seafood caught daily and proudly served up in many of the town’s restaurants. We also recommend visiting Loch Fyne Ales Brewery to try a local ale or craft beer.

We love Inveraray because...

  • Stunning scenery
  • Loch side location

In and around Inveraray

Inveraray Castle

This iconic castle is open to the public, allowing you to walk the historic paths, admire the stunning architecture and explore the beautiful landscaped grounds. You will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the building, being the ancestral home to the Duke of Argyll, who is chief to Clan Campbell. This picturesque castle incorporates Baroque, Palladian and Gothic architecture and features four castellated towers.

Inveraray Jail

Step back in time and learn of the gory history of this once overcrowded jail. This interactive experience features actors bringing the buildings and courtrooms to life in an extraordinary manner, with torture devices on show and incredibly detailed historical titbits, it is an interesting insight into 19th century Scotland’s justice system.

Crarae Garden Argyll

Modelled after a Himalayan woodland garden, this unique patch of Scotland is a remarkable sight. Beautiful oriental flowering plants bloom in harmony in the warmer months, while the seasons transform the garden in magical ways, through dramatic shifts in colour. Admire the cliffs, waterfalls and deep gorge, all housed within the garden and take a quiet moment to admire the peaceful tranquillity of the location, before exploring the many paths, bridges and secret areas.
